PAID ADVERTISEMENT. I am writing in response to the many comments made in the Star Gazette October 24th letters to the editor. To answer Mr. Horgen's comments about the "mold infested hall". The hall could have been abated for under $3000 so a plan could be developed to build a new town hall in the future. The majority of the board members chose NOT to do it but instead pay for a new office space in Moose Lake, which costs the township for rent, internet and an extra charge for meetings held at that facility. Yes, we use the Moose Lake Council Chambers for free but we pay for someone to record those meetings. To answer comments made about the clerk and treasurer doing the same work. The ONLY task that they both do is process the claims or bills. This ensures that there are checks and balances when dealing with the township money. Otherwise, each position has their OWN tasks to per- form. There was a comment about theatrics and I just want to say that when one finger points to others there are three more pointing back at you. There is also a "push" to guilt people into working for the township for free. My response is that Windemere Township is the SECOND largest in Pine County, only second to Pokegama. We have the second largest voting population. Each person on the board works hard and, in my opinion, should be reimbursed for their work and not made to feel guilty for drawing pay. I will donate my time or money to a charity of my own choosing and I do not think Windemere Township is a legitimate charity. That brings me to the controversial "bridge cover" that was mentioned. The Sturgeon Island bridge cost the township $20,000. The county paid for the rest. This did NOT include a new cover for the bridge. In my opinion, a NEW replacement cover can't be historic - IT'S NEW. The $200,000 spent on a decorative cover could have been set aside for a new township hall fund. I would like to remind Mr. Mossberg that his comment "Good for thee, not for me" directed at Ms. Kroening should have also been directed to Woltjer, Perrine, Beckman, Dotseth, Stauber, Trump, Waldham, Switzer, Real Estate Signs, Garage Sale signs, ETC. I would also like to say, as clerk, I did not hold the Township hostage for more money. I simply asked if the clerk could get reimbursed for the extra hours put in each month like it had always been done in the past. I finally said I would write the minutes to keep them accurate, but I was denied by the majority of the board. I also want to say that if I was going to refuse to fulfill my obligation as clerk, I certainly would have done it by now. I have shown that I am committed to finishing my term as clerk and if elected to the treasurer position, I would commit to do the same.
