MOOSE LAKE MINNESOTA GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES City of Moose Lake Skilled Laborer I Department: Public Works - Street, Sewer & Water Hours Worked: 40 Hours Per Week, M-F, On-Call Compensation: $20.00 Per Hour The duties of the employee holding this position will be general operation and maintenance activities in the areas of streets, sewer and water operations. Employee will serve under the daily direction of the City Superintendent and shall report directly to the City Superintendent. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Perform skilled work in public works maintenance including streets, sewer system, and water system tasks as assigned. Perform routine and emergency maintenance and repairs as needed or required. Emergencies may require unscheduled overtime and/or call back. Normal operations may require modified working schedules at various times. Perform snow and ice removal, to include snowplowing and shoveling as assigned. - Ability to work independently and utilize sound judgement in decision-making skills when performing required tasks. Perform manual labor as required. Maintain records as established and/or needed. Ability to work with other City staff and the public. Perform other duties and responsibilities as apparent or as delegated. Sewer and Water Systems Assist in the repair and maintenance of the city's utility system (i.e., exercise hydrants, valves, clean manholes, lift stations, maintain sewer lines and a wide variety of other maintenance activities). Repair or read water meters as assigned. Locate and mark water and sewer utilities, and perform a standard locate ticket for utility marking. Take hour and meter readings daily on all lift stations, water tower, and well house equipment. Perform operations and maintenance at City wastewater treatment plant. Street Maintenance Perform street maintenance work including such activities as resurfacing with blacktop, patching, grading, graveling, cleaning, signing and removing snow and ice. Preform ROW clearing including such activities as cutting and removing of over growth vegetation of city ROW, maintaining flow lines, drainage ditches and flowage ways that service the city ROW. Assist in repair and or installation of culverts and drainage pipes that service the city ROW. Operate Trucks and trailers with and or without such attachments as snowplows, sanders, snowblowers, water tanks, hoists, pumps and winches, and other equipment. . May perform duties on weekends, holidays and evening as assigned. Perform work on maintenance and operation of municipal storm sewer system. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to establish effective relationships with city personnel and the general public. . . Ability to perform routine repair and maintenance tasks on areas including: streets, parks, water and sewer utilities. Ability to operate a variety of equipment such as medium and heavy weight trucks, front end loader, backhoe, tractors, sweepers, snowblowers, water jetting equipment, dump trucks, and truck and trailer combinations. Ability to perform manual labor. Ability to be on call, on an every other week schedule. Minimum Qualifications: Experience operating equipment of all sizes. Possession of a valid Class B, CDL Minnesota driver's license (for at least two years with experience) and satisfactory driving record. High School diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent experience. - Ability to pass pre-employment physical, including drug and alcohol testing. Ability to read, understand and follow both written and oral instructions, including safety rules. Preferred Training and Experience: .Mechanical aptitude. Computer experience. Ability to obtain within 24 months, Class D MN Water Systems Operator License and Class D Sanitary Sewer wastewater treatment licenses. Essential Physical Requirements: The physical demands are those encountered while perform- ing the listed essential functions. Employees in this position are required to perform various duties involving moderate physical strength. - Climb up and down ladders. Bend and twist while performing maintenance duties. Lift 50 pounds repeatedly. . Traverse rough terrain. Ability to perform job responsibilities in normal to adverse climatic conditions.
