About

Nathan Nelson grew up on a dairy farm east of Hinckley, MN and graduated from Hinckley-Finlayson High School in 1997. After high school Nathan moved to Wichita, KS and worked as a carpenter. While in Kansas, he met his wife Suzanna, and they have been married for 20 years and have 5 children. Nathan and Suzanna moved back to Pine County 17 years ago to partner with his father, Howard Nelson. Although dairy had been the main focus of the farm since his grandfather, Edward Nelson, planted his roots in Pine County in the 1930's, since partnering with his father, Nathan has been instrumental in growing the farm both in size and diversity. In 2018, as sole owners, Nathan and Suzanna chose to expand their herd of Angus beef cattle, and to sell the dairy cows. Today, they are the third generation to own and operate the farm. Nathan has been involved in his community since returning home. He has been active in the church where he has taught Sunday School and has been a youth leader. Additionally, he has served as Supervisor on the Clover Township board for the past 9 years. Nathan is also a passionate voice for agriculture. He has served on numerous boards and committees over the years, some of the most notable being, the Dairy Herd Improvement Association and Farm Bureau as well as volunteering with Pine County 4-H. Nathan is the current president of the Pine County Farm Bureau. He served on the Young Farmers and Ranchers (YF&R) committee in the Minnesota Farm Bureau for three years and was the Chairman of the committee in 2012. In 2015 Nathan & Suzanna were voted Pine County’s “Farm Family of the Year”. He is also involved with Speak For Yourself, through it he has told his story of farming to Lions Clubs, Rotaries, and high schools all the way from North Branch to Duluth. Nathan was a member of Minnesota Agriculture and Rural Leadership (MARL) Class 8. This is a two-year leadership course through a partnership with the University of Minnesota Extension and Southwest Minnesota State University. Nathan is actively engaged with leaders in St. Paul and has working relationships with numerous representatives, senators, and commissioners throughout the state. Many of these relationships have been cultivated through connections made through Farm Bureau and MARL. In his spare time, Nathan enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and making maple syrup. He loves giving back to the area that he grew up in to create a strong community for future generations.
